What is this treatment?
A diving medical is a detailed health assessment that checks whether you are physically fit for underwater conditions, whether you dive recreationally or professionally.
It is carried out with a specialist in underwater and hyperbaric medicine and includes your medical history, a full physical examination, lung function tests, a chest X-ray and a simulated dive in the pressure chamber. Once all assessments are complete, we issue a fitness-to-dive certificate.
How does the treatment work?

Recreational diving medical
A recreational diving medical starts with your medical history. Some authors consider this the most important part of the examination. We ask about your full medical history, current illnesses and symptoms, medications, habits, past operations and family history. We then carry out a detailed examination of all body systems. Next, a lung function test checks your lung capacity, and a posteroanterior (PA) chest X-ray is taken to assess your lungs. Any necessary blood tests are also done. If these show no problems, you go on to a pressure simulation in the hyperbaric chamber, where you make a simulated dive with our chamber operator. Once you pass this test, you are eligible for a fitness-to-dive certificate.

Professional diving medical
Professional divers need everything in the recreational diving medical plus screening for dysbaric osteonecrosis. We take plain X-rays of both shoulders, hips and knees in special positions to check for any lesions. Once the results are available, you are eligible for a professional diver's certificate.
